Swami Shantanand Saraswati

The former founder and director of Shanti Temple, Swami Shantanand Saraswati, passed away in 2021,  known to his students and friends as Shantji,  is a down-to-earth mystic. He is a yogi, a philosopher, a writer, a counselor and a liberated soul. A free thinking teacher, Shantji shares practical knowledge from ancient wisdom.  It is his belief that enlightenment is attainable by each and every one of us.

Shantji was born in a spiritual family in northern India in 1946. Since early childhood he was contemplative about the mysteries of life.   He was deeply moved and inspired by the lives of great mystics and saints.  After graduating with honors from the University of Allahabad, he spent several years in monasteries and caves seeking God.  He practiced yoga and meditation and ultimately realized the core of his being beyond the realm of the individual self.

Shantji has been teaching, lecturing and conducting workshops in the United States since 1980. He has written several books in English and Hindi including  Are You Free, Power of Truth, Confusion & Clarity, Pure Wisdom, and Enlightenment.  He has appeared on numerous radio and television programs. Shantji was a dynamic speaker and challenging teacher who engages the intellect but appeals to the heart with his clarity, humor and stories. It is the joy of his life to share the mystical wisdom of "Non-Doing"... the key to total freedom.   His books are available at Shanti Temple Meditation Center in Montrose, Pa. 18801.
